Description
Cacao Marañón from Peru is a rare and highly prized variety known for its unique genetics, exceptional flavor profile, and historical significance. This cacao originates from the remote Marañón Canyon in northern Peru, where it was rediscovered as a nearly pure strain of Nacional cacao, previously thought to be extinct outside Ecuador.
Sourced from the main Coop of the region with over 6500 farmers in Peru, the fermentation of these beans is quite exceptional. This Coop is part of the Sierra Piura Reforestation project (RSP) is one of the most important initiatives in the northern region of Peru on compensation of environmental services for carbon capture, through forest plantations in degraded and/or deforested areas with forestry and protection suitability.
Due to its rarity and fine flavor, Marañón cacao is highly sought after by premium chocolate makers worldwide.
